It's clear to me that by the year 2030 the population of the United States is going to break down along the following lines: one-third Latino, one-third black, one-third Amish.

Accordingly I’ve spent a very entertaining morning stalking various Mennonites – think “Amish” in pastels – through Versailles, MO as they cruise fleamarkets and the local Wal-Mart looking for video games. Less extreme sects are allowed to play video games if the console they play them on is battery operated. Less extreme sects are also allowed to drive cars. I fully expect all of them to start driving cars once the electric automobile is more widely available.

Money shot was a teenage girl sneaking a peek at The National Enquirer when her parents weren’t looking. Even if you’re a Mennonite, if you’re a teenage girl you gotta know if Robert and Kristen are on or off that week. Didn’t feel right snapping the photograph – she wasn’t an animal in a petting zoo – and had to content myself instead with POMO ironic pix in the parking lot.

“Versailles,” of course, is pronounced VARE-saltz, you ignoramus.

Better if I could have gotten the big WalMart sign, but that would have involved climbing a fence.

I really admire tham for being able to maintain a separate lifestyle like that.

Odd way to pronounce Versailles... But hey what do I know... My husband does archaeological digs in Happisburgh, Norfolk, which as everyone can see is pronounced 'Hazeborough' ::blinks::

Kristen Stewart... oh dear... There are very few actresses that I really can't stand, and she is one of them. Lovely, interesting book character completely ruined by flat, emotionless screen acting.

Excellent photograph. The Mennonites in the area where I grew up were known for their baked goods. And then Athens, Illinois is pronounced AY-thens and Milan, Illinoins is MY-lun. Yeesh.

Nevada, Missouri -- ancestral home of director John Houston (!) and scene of much guerrilla warfare during the late Unpleasantness Between the States -- is pronounced nuh-VAY-da.
