Breathing and Business Plans
Jan. 13th, 2015 10:22 amTen thousand percent better today. It feels so wonderful to breathe.
Spent yesterday shoveling wet mush and cowering under the lightbox. One of the greyest, dourest days I can ever remember, but, of course, I never remember anything.
I watched a 10-hour documentary on the British royal succession. Ask me anything you want about Edward the Confessor!
Today, it’s sunny and bright although so cold one might imagine one was living inside a dry ice sculpture.
I need to finish various scut chores related to the Tax-Aide certification and show Seraphina the first draft of the biz plan for Breaking Barriers. Breaking Barriers is the cultural arts expo Seraphina has been subsidizing out of her own pocket for the past three years.
I went last year, brought Linda. We were the only white people in the room.
Seraphina debriefed me toward the end of the day: “So what do you think?”
“Well, Seraphina,” I said, “if you’re sponsoring a festival that celebrates cultural diversity and inclusion, and you have 498 black people and two white people, I think there’s an outreach problem. Plus there’s absolutely no reason why you should be paying for any of this. There are funding sources out there.”
So I have signed on to be her unofficial consiglieri for the 2015 expo planning. She needs one. She keeps wanting to pay me; I keep telling her I won’t accept a cent until she gets a funding source.
I haven’t done anything remotely creative in weeks. The voices in my head are taking a vacation. Or something. Not worrying about it.
