Oktoberfest dinner party was the Big Fun.
Platter after platter of hearty German fare. Wienerschnitzel. Multiple KN-named sausages. Red cabbage and apples. Sauerkraut. Cucumber salad. Pumpernickel bread. An amazing pumpernickel bread spread. Potato salad with bacon, or should I say bacon salad with potatoes. Desserts in hylle und fylle: heart-shaped Lebkuchenherzen cookies, an amazing fresh apple tart, and of course my German chocolate cake, of which I am inordinately proud. Isn't it cute?
So many types of German beer, I lost count. A white German dessert wine which was mostly what I stuck with throughout the evening.
Around my third glass of white German dessert wine, the company turned into the Algonquin Round Table. Kevin was Dorothy Parker. But the Adorableness Award for the evening went to Phyllis:

You can't tell from this photo, but her fingernail and toenail polish matched the green of her skirt.
There were even some Crazy Cat People in attendance so I let Rutger come downstairs where he was much admired and fussed over.
Today, I really must do some Useful Work although I'm much more inclined to lounge around readinng Dan Chaon, my latest literary find, who writes like the literary lovechild of Lorrie Moore and Stephen King.
