mallorys_cameraIt was raining very hard when I took off for BB’s Catskills cottage this morning to finish canning salsa.
By the time I got to Rhinebeck, Route 9 was partly flooded, and I asked myself, Do I really wanna be navigating back country roads in this kind of weather?
And answered, No!
I always feel like such a fucking wimp when I cancel plans this way.
I should think, I am empowered! To do what feels right! ‘Cause I am the boss of me!
Instead, I think, Pussy!
On the ride home, I saw two (count ‘em) sets of flashing red lights: First responders on the side of the road.
Accidents.
So, it was definitely the right decision.

It has continued to rain all day, which has zapped my energy for doing anything.
Tomorrow, it is supposed to (ugh!) snow.
If this is any kind of preview of what the next four months are gonna be like—winter; the end of Daylight Savings Time, so early darkness—the next four months are gonna suck.

In the car, I made the mistake of listening to nutty Alan Chartock expound upon his theory that only Republicans are going to wait till Election Day to vote. “And Republicans don’t believe in wearing masks! They don’t believe in taking precautions against Covid!”
This gave me The Fear!
The poll workers manning the early election stations are allowed to turn away voters who refused to wear masks.
But on Election Day itself, we are not allowed to do that. We have to let every registered voter vote.
So, of course, now I am thinking, Oh, shit. I am going to be spending 16 hours on election day in the company of a bunch of veritable walking, talking, Trump-voting covid plantations. ‘Cause I volunteered to spend Election Day cleaning voting machines at my local polling place and enforcing social distance dictates.
I will probably catch IT and die, right?
Tomorrow, I guess I’m gonna have to start nosing around for materials to put together some kind of DIY hazard suit.
