Rexit made me nervous.

Very nervous.

Mostly, I ignore politics these days. Unless those politics have some direct impact on the affairs of the tiny township in which I live. It matters whether there’s a stop sign on that gnarly three-way juncture on White Oaks Road. It matters whether those three (mostly useless) volunteer fire fighter stations are replaced by one (presumably efficient!) tax-supported fire station.

It kind of matters that the Senate seems poised to repeal most of the Dodd-Frank protections that were put into place after the Big Recession, and that your pals the Democrats are on board with that repeal – although that story is getting surprisingly little play in the national press.

But there isn’t a damn thing that I personally can do about that.

It also kind of matters that high school students around the country are demonstrating against having their high schools turned into prisons by metal detectors and armed guards because adults can’t get it together to pass sensible firearm restraints. But very few high school students in Dutchess County – which went for Trump in 2016 – are joining that movement. And by the time I bake 100,000 chocolate chip cookies and dispatch them to Washington, D.C., the cookies will all be stale.

Rex Tillerson’s firing disturbed me, though.

Partly, it was the way it was done – on Twitter, which I suppose is a tacit admission of the fact that social media is now the vacuum chamber in which all Frankenstein monsters come alive.

Mostly, though, it was the facts of the firing.

Proximal cause seems to be that Tillerson would not back down from his contention that the UK spy poisoning was clearly masterminded by Russia.

Trump and Co. are fiercely denying the Russian involvement.

What does Putin have on Trump?

It’s obviously something a lot bigger than golden showers and billion-dollar real estate transactions.

Did he schtup Ivanka on a sleighbed in the Amber Room surrounded by Faberge eggs, portraits of Rasputin and Stalin, and video cameras?

What?
