Z is for Zombies

Funny.
When I finished Y is for Yesterday earlier this week, I wondered, What happens to Grafton when she completes ‘Z is for Zombies.’ Does she drop dead?
Never occurred to me that she would drop dead before the alphabet was finished.
I interviewed Grafton when I worked for People. I liked her. She was very no-nonsense, the consummate professional when it came to her own work. No, And I only write on yellow legal pads in purple ink after burning sage in my meditation room woo-woo shit from her.
The interview was part of a series I’d initiated with genre writers. The Time Inc. overlords disapproved, but I was fortunate enough to have an immediate boss who thought I was a genius and gave me a budget. My immediate boss and I got fired at the same time.
Dan Okrent (who went on to write the definitive history of the Prohibition after he got fired) was running Time Inc back then, and he thought the Internet was a fad. And it’s hemorrhaging money! he snapped in an internal memo.
It’s not easy being a visionary!
The Kinsey Milhone books are the literary equivalent of very yummy mashed potatoes and garlic. Total comfort food! I ate them right up.

In other news, it continues to be very, very cold here, which puts a damper on any travel plans I may have had since I am visited by persistent visions of skidding over black ice on these back country roads, rolling into a ditch, and then freezing to death as I try to go for help because of course, my accident will occur when I’m driving outside a cell zone!
I did a kind of “treatment” (in the Hollywood sense of the word) of the last few scenes in the Alice/Nell story.
And I keep telling myself, Really! It does not matter what you write! It only matters that you get it on a page! Because you can change it when you’re editing.
But my wise counsel falls on my deaf ears.
Basically, because I’m lazy, and I suppose (see last entry) insufficiently bored.
