The End of LJ as We Know It?

There's much concern, now that LJ content is no longer hosted on California servers, that the Russian Overlords may decide to stop supporting non-Cyrillic accounts. Apparently non-Cyrillic accounts are huge money losers. In other words, you may wake up one morning to find everything in your LJ account is gone. (Cue Sopranos theme music.)

I mirror my content other places, so I'm not concerned about losing journal entries.

I would be sad to lose contact with LJ flist folk and other readers. So, if you have an FB account and would like to continue this cyber-friendship, private-message me so that we can continue being "friendZ" on Facebook.

I know I have a fairly sizable contingent of readers who don't come in through LJ. But I wouldn't think those would count for LJ stats.

I agree with you about FB. But all I post about on FB is cats, and it's a really convenient way of staying in some sort of touch with people I care about.

You can migrate LJ text content to Dreamwidth pretty easily:

Dreamwidth doesn't have image capacities, though. Which makes it a poor substitute so far as I'm concerned.

I agree with you about the image capacity, but better this than lose the whole journal, I guess.

It will work. Dreamwidth is probably overloaded with requests right now since so many LJers are migrating their journals. May take slightly longer than usual.
