Jeff Sessions as Attorney General?

Are you fuckin’ kidding me?

This is a guy whose casual racism cost him a federal judgeship back in 1986.

This is a guy who once remarked that the Ku Klux Klan were “okay” till they started smoking marijuana.

This is a guy who thinks the South in the 50s and 60s was a suburb of Eden where white people and black people lived in perfect harmony because everybody knew their place – the white people lived in those big houses along Main Street and the black people lived in little shanties close to the train tracks.

Not just a racist – and please to note: There is active racism where you call a grown man, “Boy” (which Sessions does) and there’s also passive racism in institutions like ethnic profiling (which Sessions supports) – but notoriously hard-line both on illegal and legal immigration.

This could not be worse.

Seriously considering going to the Million Women’s March on Washington on January 21.

Tentative plan is for [livejournal.com profile] kdotdammit to fly in from Tucson and for us to bus down together for a rousing day of solidarity with the sistuhs! It will be very cold. There will be no bathrooms. I will be surrounded by representatives from the Pantsuits Nation with whose politics and partisanship I’m not in strong agreement.

And yet. And yet. And yet.

Sometimes what you think is not very important. Sometimes the only important thing is the weight of your body.

It feels very important to be there.

###

Else?

I finally ran out of Revlon Colorsilk Luminsta 112 hair dye, so I now have about two inches of unattractive grey roots. My hair grows excessively fast. Colorsilk Luminista gets my hair the precise shade of aubergine that I like, but Revlon discontinued manufacturing it a few years back. There are probably a few boxes of it floating around in the Van Allen belt that encircles the Internet, but I think it’s probably smartest to bite the bullet and research the efficacy of other hair dyes.

Also, I need a manicure.

Also, I need to wash the black cashmere sweaters that are the staples of my wardrobe in the winter months. It’s warm and beautiful today, but it’s supposed to snow this weekend.

I tend toward the slatternly. Clean but slatternly. I understand that one must keep up with the packaging but girly-girl-girl things just don’t interest me. So frequently, now that beauty has deserted me, I look like a bag lady. A clean bag lady.

Less so, though, when my hair and nails are done, and I’m wearing a black cashmere sweater. Cashmere is a fashion evergreen.

May I use your words about Sessions on FB? I won't link back or credit. It's just that you've put together all the words as to what is so wrong about it so perfectly that I want to just copy and share.

You can use my words and my name (if you want.) The only reason I didn't post this on FB is because I don't think anyone actually reads what I write on FB. But they read you, charismatic lady, so have at it.

Ah, I wasn't sure if you want that. Thank you!

The appointments just get worse and worse with each day. It's really hard to watch when #1 what I most feared would happen is actually happening and #2 the futility that comes with that realization.

Cashmere is good that is all :)

I was cringing when word on the street was that Giuliani was on tap for AG. But Sessions -- oh, my God. Bad beyond belief.

Yes, cashmere is good stuff.

Excellent. I do so wish there was a way we could all meet up! But I suspect the day will be too frenetic.

No bathrooms? Uggghhhhh.

Well. I'm assuming no bathrooms. Part of my youth was mispent marching in various political demonstrations, and there were never enough Porta-Potties.

Amazon sells Colorsilk Luminista 112, should be doable?

(Walmart's is cheaper, but from a third-party seller.)

Right. I did research it. But since they're not manufacturing the stuff anymore, it's not really a sustainable distribution outlet. :-) Sooner or later, I'm gonna have to find something else. It might as well be sooner.

The thought of you and Kdotdammit marching together in DC makes me shiver with delight at the prospect. A hearty "You GO girls!" out to you two Thunderbitches.

You know, I’ve told a lot of jokes in my day. They all start differently. “Knock knock…” “Why’d the chicken…” “A priest, a rabbi and a duck walk into a bar…” But never, in all these years of being the class clown, have I told a “joke” that began, “You know, I thought the KKK was alright…”

“Unattractive”: I doubt this. You’re totally capable of rocking the grey.

I like that one, too.

Apparently Pence went to see Hamilton and was booed by the audience and lectured by Aaron Burr. When Aaron Burr is more popular than you, perhaps it’s time for a little soul searching.

From: [identity profile] mallorys-camera.livejournal.com
Well, I disagree with you and most of the other people I know about this one. :-)

I think it's inappropriate to bring political stuff up in non-political contexts. It would be like you lecturing a patient whom you know is a Trump supporter while you're handing her a little plastic cup of meds.

I haven't seen Hamilton, but if its political subtext is clear enough, then belaboring that subtext is just a way for the Hamilton cast to get its name and image into the social media clickbait feeding frenzy.

No. I disagree with that comparison 100%. (1) Healthcare should be a human right – even for the basket of deplorables. Going to the theatre isn’t a human right. It’s a privilege. (2) An artist shouldn’t be expected to keep his or her mouth shut because of some horseshit gentleman’s agreement. They are not circus animals expected to perform for the amusement of tyrants. It is within the artist’s right to balk. (3) Pence isn’t some random dipshit voter, he’s the vice-president elect and partly responsible. If he wants to go someplace where people will blow sunshine up his ass, the Klan is having a victory parade on December 4th. I’m sure he’ll be treated with dignity and respect there.
