Nov. 30th, 2012 12:59 pmSo, apparently the recent changes our Russian Overlords have made to the various LJ databases are such that I can no longer read comments on Friends-locked entries. This is very annoying.
I have an older computer (PowerBook G4) that is only capable of running Firefox 3.6.26, and every other website I set that browser to feverishly urges me to update so I can enjoy all the technological goodies (read: privacy-tracking cookies) the website has to offer.
A spiffy new computer? Who wouldn't want one.
But it's waaaaay down on my priority list.
In the meantime, I am pissed, since reading comments is half the fun.
I reset my interface to the old dystopia, but it doesn't seem to make any difference in comment accessibility. Filed a complaint with LJ support. But I don't think they read English anymore.
Anyway, I'm thinkin' I might bail on LJ. Yeah, yeah, I have the Dreamwidth safety net in place. But maybe after 11 years it's time to stop keeping a public journal at all. Although I like keeping a public journal. If the signposts are pointing a certain way, though, and it's toward the egresss... Well. It doesn't have to be a decision. Just an attrition.
Update: Yeah, it's a browser issue. Our Russian overlords want us to use new browsers with new security holes they can exploit in new ways!
I do hate Safari, but it will work for this.

Date: 2012-12-01 04:11 pm (UTC)I don't get this constant need to update Internet interfaces, I gotta say. I suppose it's in the interests of planned obsolescence so we'll have to buy expensive new computers we wouldn't otherwise need.

Date: 2012-11-30 06:54 pm (UTC)Since they updated the default comments page I can no longer read comments on journals that use that page (all basic accounts and some paid ones) in Safari. I can post comments, though. On Firefox it is the other way around: I can read, but not post.
Dreamwidth is really lovely, promise. The owners and staff actually care for their userbase.
