mallorys_cameraWho woulda thunk it? Coffee date with Mr. Cortland turned out to be a blast. We nattered away about GIS mapping and water rights in Tompkins County and unusual guitar picking methods and how prosperous the strange little villages of Freeville and Aetna were right up until the early 1980s when Archer Daniels Midland and Cargill drove out the dairy farms, and before you know it an hour had gone by. He grew up on a farm in Homer, looks like Garrison Keillor. (I don’t actually care that you think Garrison Keillor is a jerk– I cry sometimes during his Lake Woebegond monologues.)
Now I don’t know that the Samuel Goldwyn Metro orchestra was hiding behind the fake ferns at Dunkin Donuts preparing to play Some Enchanted Evening, but that’s fine. I think he’d be perfectly agreeable to just hanging out, hiking together, listening to jazz in clubs, grabbing the occasional bite to eat.
An hour well spent – definitely.
Plus it’s 45 degrees out!
