My Meezer would not take well to the tinker life -- I have to find a home for her. She's a wild girl with a feral beauty and grace, not at all cuddly, so unsuitable as a "pet" as far as most people are concerned. I appreciate her but then I like untamed things. She'd never find a home through the ASPCA.

Sigh...

Meezers are the best. Our 17-year-old seal point girl passed away last year. She was vicious to anyone outside of our family. But loyal and loving to us. (She was even wonderful to our new born baby!)

We now have a young blue point girl -- and she doesn't have the same mean streak -- but she's wonderful too.

Yeah, I guess that temperament is a breed thing.

There is a Siamese Cat rescue in the Bay Area. Maybe you can contact them...

I don't think she's a purebred Siamese. I mean, she has no papers. Do you think they would still be able to help?

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I send this mail to a server I don't read often. You can send me mail on gmail using my first name and last name as one word in all lower case. I really do want to help you with this.

There are a lot of kitty rescue groups in the Bay Area. No one really gives a crap about papers. They like the look of a breed.

I got Beanie from these guys

(Beanie looks like this:

Send me an un-doctored picture, too. I cannot tell if she's a Birman, Ragdoll or long haired Siamese from that photo. If she's a Birman or Ragdoll, she might surprise you. They can be very tractable.

A few questions: Does she let you touch her at all? Pick her up? Does she run from you? Have you ever taken her to a vet? Skilled shelter workers and cat rescuers can handle pretty much any kind of kitty disposition. One thing to be very aware of with SPCA type organizations is that they are likely to put down an animal with FeLV or FIV - its worth getting her checked. If she tests negative, you'd be surprised at how easily she can get placed. If she's what I think she is, she might be in and out of the Oakland SPCA in less than a month unless she's totally nuts. (It may take longer if she's nuts.)

I'm happy to brainstorm ideas with you.

Beanie looks like the Meezer. I'll take a photo and email it to you.

I have two local possibilities -- the Crazy Cat Lady who lives in back of me, and my friend Heidi who's known the Meez since kittenhood.

The Meez lets me pick her up 80% of the time. Many nights she sleeps right next to my pillow. Thing is you'll be petting her and she will seem to be enjoying it and then all of a sudden she grabs you with her claws and starts biting you hard. This makes her totally unsuitable for any family w/children.

Good point about FeLV or FIV -- I'll get her tested.

Given your description, I'd say she's eminently adoptable (assuming negative titers). I've seen whirling dervishes get adopted out the Oakland SPCA. They often will put behavioral notes that the animal nips/swats when overstimulated and is not suitable for a beginning pet owner or someone with kids. (Experienced cat owners can read body language and know to keep the hand still while being bitten or swatted.) I suspect she's a ragdoll mix, then.
