My mind’s stopped functioning. I can’t think. I can’t read. I can’t eat.

I can watch television so long as it’s mindless television.

This morning I channel surfed between Animal Stars on Animal Planet hosted by Mario Lopez (who also hosts the Miss America Pageant – same format, different animals) and an A&E biography of Shannen Dougherty. At a certain point Shannen Dougherty became Animal Stars – a miracle of transubstantiation difficult to explain to anyone who doesn’t live inside my brain. Shannon was Perky the Piglet, trained to do dog agility races, while Wanda the Australian Shepard starred as Brenda Walsh in 90120.

I have been sleeping thanks to my pal Mister Xanax, but not really eating. Going through the motions, you bet – there are so many motions, I can’t afford to miss a beat. But not feeling it.

Consciousness is just such a strange phenomenon. You’re supposed to take it on faith that other people have consciousness too, but really how do you know? You’re reading this but who are you? Another speck in the expanding universe with delusions of grandeur? 'Cause that's all I am.

The one thing I know for sure is I want to get out of Monterey.

I’m not sure how to do that so I can’t call it a plan. Just an ambition.

I don't know about Shannon Doherty becoming Perky the Piglet, but I always thought she missed her chance when she got fired from 90210 and didn't try to start up a TV show bringing the ARCHIE gang to life. She would have been a natural Veronica.

Ben Affleck, by the way, would have made a PERFECT Jughead Jones.

you are in mourning...grief is one of those friends that will visit uninvited over and over. I am sorry about the loss of your dream.....hopefully the analogy of one door closing will be true for you....the next adventure may be your greatest!

Very true about grief. Nice metaphor.

Ben Affleck? Oh, no. You need someone with a sharper chin. Maybe the pre-Letterman Joaquin Phoenix

She would, wouldn't she? And she was so great in Heathers too...

Hang in there. Another opportunity will come up for you because you're so intelligent and plucky. I hate saying all these cliched platitudes when someone's havinga tough time, but they are true.

Well, there really is nothing to say when someone's having a tough time except that you wish they weren't... I blither on here because my LJ is all about whining. :-)
