One has the sense of crawling through historic times like a cockroach….

Anyway, it pisses me off, so I'm going to go to the peace march in San Francisco on Saturday.

In other news – finished the morgue scene, it seems to work. Embark today upon the wise-cracking cops in the squad room scene, followed by the interview-the-Chinese-girlfriend-of-dead-assassin scene. Did spend 20 minutes last night paralyzed in front of my computer screen, staring at the words "sneak" and "jump," and wondering, so does Vanya sneak upstairs or does he run upstairs? And really, who gives a fuck since this is a sentence that prospective readers will spend .002 seconds on? My only excuse was that it was late at night, and obviously the powers that be were just keeping awake long enough to pick up the phone – my sister calling hysterical from New Mexico. Against my advice, she had been displaying a large anti-war sign in front yard. Somebody had smashed her front window in. I resisted the temptation to say, well, yeah, there is a reason why I resist the siren song of cheap rural real estate.

"That's it," she said, "I'm moving to San Miguel de Allende."

And I said, "Wonderful. I'll come visit." But what I was thinking was, my dear – don't you know that Mexico is even worse?

This polarization is beginning to lose any shades of gray. I have been noticing around here that those who display any form of peace sign are having their property vandalized at night by wandering carloads of flagwielding vigilantes. Their peace signs are ripped down and replaced by the flag. Cars displaying bumperstickers "No war" or even the ubiquitous "Pray for Peace" are being vandalized, glass smashed, keys dragged through the paint job.

My Volvo's front grill came with a symbol for Mars (or male, same thing) on it, Volvo's logo, so I taped a plastic black & white peace (really it's BAN THE BOMB) sign over it. Now I worry for my windshield's longevity. Times are so wierd.

I think if I lived in the country right now, I'd fly a huge American flag in front of my house. Wussy? You bet. But life is hard enough without dealing with idiots. Nature smiles on protective camaflage.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going out right now and take the peace sign off. You are right, out here in this remote country, we have basically two groups, the aging hippies and the out-of-work loggers(the latter unemployed because of the protests of the former). My boss tells me to "Keep your head down", and my sweetie says to "Fly beneath the radar". I am too old to deal with this shit. Oh, by the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
