The Marginal Futility Function

Busy, busy, busy!

On Sunday, I had one of those nights when I could not sleep.

This happens to me from time to time, and I can never figure out why. I’d tromped five miles that afternoon in raw but not really cold weather, so lack of exercise was not a factor. I am scrupulous about curtailing caffeine intake after noon.

My best surmise is that these sleepless episodes take place on nights before days when I have to do something.

That something can be a thing I’m looking forward to!

That doesn’t matter. It’s the coercion factor somehow, You must do this; there is no way to avoid it.

Anyway, on no sleep whatsoever, I was quite the incompetent TaxBwana yesterday and made numerous mistakes, which fortunately, the various TaxBwanas QAing me picked up and corrected.

And I slept 12 hours last night, so I should be cooking with gas on all burners this morning.

I’m volunteering three days a week.

Plus keeping up my rather strenuous Remuneration schedule because $$$ buys me travel, and I am looking at India, Vietnam, or Egypt for the early fall.

Plus helping various people with various projects they (naively) believe will benefit from my help.

It’s not as though I have any kind of social life in the wintertime anyway, right?

Though I am thinking of going down to the City next week to check out Guillermo del Toro’s puppets for Pinocchio at MOMA.

The world continues to deteriorate at an accelerated rate.

It’s scary.

But I gotta pretend it isn’t deteriorating.

‘Cause there isn’t a goddam thing I can do about the marginal futility function.
