We do know that Western culture owes an enormous debt to one anonymous body snatcher.

The world continues to do whatever it is the world is doing now.

Sweden with its voluntary shelter-in-place recommendations is reporting a mortality rate of 88 people per million, which makes epidemiologists around the world gasp, but the U.S. with its draconian patchwork of state ordinances is reporting a mortality rate of 62 people per million—and rising. So, I’m not sure whether the hysterical U.S. response is a whole lot better.

There are long, long, long food lines everywhere.

6.6 million people filed for unemployment last week—that’s on top of all the people who filed for unemployment in the weeks before.

It’s a fucking mess.

I worry about all those people.

I don’t know how any of them survive.

They are being culled just as effectively as if they had all died of covid.

There’s nothing really I can do about any of it except keep my head down.

Knowing it would be raining today, I went for a long hike yesterday. I found a waterfall I’d never seen before!



I puttered. I accepted therapy from the Emotional Support Cat. I fixed L’s computer. I did some paying work.

In fact, I have a tight deadline for some paying work right now. Horribly boring but reasonably remunerative paying work. So, I better stop wasting time writing here and get on with it.
