I thought this gold-rimmed summer would go on forever. But it’s ending. The temps plunged to autumnal levels several weeks back, and now the yellow is starting to appear on the trees as though some artist, too careless to limn individual leaves on branches, is going over the tips of those trees with a thoughtless ochre brush.

I harvested the last 30 pounds of fruit from my dying tomato plants, and now I really must make tomato sauce. But it is so much work, and I am so lazy! Marigolds, peppers and flowering basil are all that survive in my garden:

The pokeberries have appeared on my running path:

Touched bases with both kids last weekend.

RTT continues to appear to be fine. Of course, my communication with him is through texting, so I have no opportunity to assess subtle markers like tone of voice or silences between the words.

Max is back to overextending himself with a billion different projects, at least one of which will not go as well as planned, thereby triggering a depressive episode.

The weeks to come are filled with plans for pleasant social encounters and small adventures.

I still haven’t looked at the Work in Progress.

But I’ll do that today.
