It's Always Midnight Somewhere
Jan. 1st, 2019 10:51 am
I went to bed at 10 o’clock (which was, after all, midnight in Nuuk, Greenland.)
I’d spent the evening scribbling all the Things I Must Do or The World Comes Screeching to a Crashing Halt into my calendar. I’m a Luddite; my calendar hangs on a wall.
January is gonna be an extremely busy month.
Don’t know whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
When Flavia and I were tromping around neo-Beijing Christmas Day, we talked about how we spend our time.
“Sometimes I’ll just hole up in my apartment and then I’ll realize: Wow! I haven’t spoken to another human being in 48 hours!” Flavia said.
“Well, I know we’re told that’s a bad thing,” I said. “But why is that a bad thing?”
Neither of us could come up with a convincing answer.
Anyway, my goal today is to begin carrying through on my two New Years’ Resolutions.
