Sunny day yesterday, so I decided to go off tromping. L had mentioned finding arrowheads at Norrie Point, so I decided to go there.

There’s an old trail that runs for a couple of miles along the river. You find it by driving to the Mills Mansion and then wandering down to the river.

No arrowheads, but various hikers have transformed the easternmost point of the tiny cape into a little wonderland of found objects, river glass, shells, pretty stones – and this one canister, which. yes, I took. After all, it was meant for me, no?

I can’t describe how utterly, utterly gorgeous the day was or how magical it felt to stumble upon that tiny canister. Inside is this quote from Hippocrates: There is one common breathing, one common flow; all things are in sympathy.

I kept tromping along the riverside trail. It’s not well marked, and it was very rocky. Eventually, it veered inland again through a dense forest:

I got completely lost, but I didn’t get overly concerned about it ‘cause you have to figure, The river’s that way, so the road must be this way. And eventually I ended up in Staatsburg again, but a part of Staatsburg I had never seen before, even though Staatsburg is a very, very tiny town. An ancient tack shop and an old railroad crossing:

Tromp turned about to be seven miles or so according to my GPS. What pissed me off was that my hips felt sore when I got home. I’m pretty sure that a year ago, my hips would not have felt sore after hiking seven miles. Getting old sucks.

In the evening, I went to see Pan with A. Pan is a very baaaaaad movie, but fun in a ghastly, over-the-top way. Think Mad Max Meets Holes. A hasn’t found employment yet, and L is under the impression that a long-term tenant is arriving for the room that A is presently occupying in a week. I’m fairly certain that L is mistaken about this and that the new kid is arriving in November, but there’s really no way to dispute this with L. And no point. Obviously, we all love A, and she’s not gonna end up sleeping in a box under the bridge. She may end up sleeping on a couch until she finds a real home.

Also, Max paid me a huge compliment by sending me his first law school paper to edit. The Lexis-Nexus case it was based on was filled with sentences like: The evidence need not be inconsistent with every conclusion save that of guilt so long as the jury can find guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

It took me a full five minutes to deconstruct that sentence.
