Woman Is the Nigger of the World
May. 25th, 2014 09:12 amSanta Barbara massacre and the Kim Kardashian nuptials are the holiday weekend’s hot news stories. At first glance, they’re an odd juxtaposition with nothing in common. But maybe not.
They’re both news stories that hinge on the assumption or celebration -- depending upon how unhinged you are -- of male privilege.
On the one hand, you have a mentally disturbed kid who decides to go on a killing rampage to punish women ‘cause he ain’t getting pussy. (Although interestingly, of his 10 victims, only two were female.)
On the other hand, you have Kanye West, a supremely egocentric celebrity – I’d love to write “talentless,” but I kinda liked his college dropout album – marrying a plastic blowup doll that, Pygmalion-like, his yearning somehow brought to flesh in what has to be the Mount Rushmore of tasteless weddings. I mean, did you see the photographs of that grotesque “flower wall” they got married in front of? It was like the furry wall in Get Him to the Greek.
Things are getting tougher and tougher for women.
A few weeks ago, one of the big news stories was the show biz industry’s boycott of the Beverly Hills Hotel because it’s owned by the Sultan of Brunei. Brunei subscribes to Sharia law under which homosexuality is punishable by death.
Hello! Sharia law also teaches that educating women is wrong, that the sacred tenets of jihad justify kidnapping females and selling them into sex slavery, that female adultery is punishable by stoning, beheading, amputation of limbs and flogging. And this has been going on for years.
You will not see the showbiz industry boycotting the Beverly Hills Hotel to protest any of those things.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono were right: Woman really is the nigger of the world.
None of which means that I’m gonna vote for Hillary Clinton in the next election.
In other news, I had a really vivid dream last night in which I was breastfeeding a baby daughter. And RTT’s suitcase has turned up in Tel Aviv.
