Jane Austen in New Hyde Park, View From an Iceberg, Gentleman Caller Status Report Plus Thirteen O'C

Party was fun. Must say, Cassandra is a genius when it comes to organizing themed entertainments. The New Year's blast featured Hoppin' John, jello shots, holiday punch, a truly impressive lineup of exotic liqueurs and flutes of champagne for quaffage at the magic moment. Guests brought food. Lauren made a habanero jelly/brie thing in pastry that was to die for. Lillian did an outstanding chopped liver paté.

I drank. Quite a lot for me. Curiously, I did not get drunk. No hangover either. This is because I kept stuffing myself with high fat content comestibles. Must starve myself for the next week or so and walk a lot.

Interesting how the guests subdivided. Cassandra's music friends, the ones she'd known and entertained when she was living with her husband, mostly gathered in the living room. Cassandra's kink friends mostly gathered in the den.

I stayed in the living room where an interesting Jane Austen-esque social dynamic was unfolding.

There is that one moment on New Years Eve after the clock chimes 12 but before the New Year begins, when the door is wide open. Call it thirteen o'clock. Anything could happen. Of course, nothing ever does. But I keep hoping…
