First day of spring so naturally it’s cold and gray and miserable. The Freecyclers are taking the books, the scratched up game CD’s, the folding card table and the like, but no one wants to go near the trashed out furnishings. I suppose I’m going to have to hire someone with a truck and take a ride to the dump.
I’m on a Ruth Rendell reading binge, that extraordinarily literate and strange writer of murder mysteries.
GuyZ reached the circus on Wednesday. Ben seems happy, but Robin has been terse and aloof both in texts and on the phone, as if he holds me personally responsible for his Monterey diaspora. Which I suppose I am.
I’ve been fantasizing about joining the Peace Corps. Max in whom I confided this daydream disapproved: “Robin isn’t launched yet,” he said. “You have a responsibility to Robin.”
I get the feeling that Max disapproves of just about everything about me these days. Paradoxically enough, that means I brought him up right.
And of course he’s right. If I don’t home school Robin, he won’t get home schooled. I certainly hope I can sell the memoir. I’ll use the proceeds to send Robin to boarding school. Then I’ll join the Peace Corps.
Don’t know what to make of the current state of the world. This Terence Corcoran piece has been widely linked. Of course, consider the source. Still you don’t hear Bernanke talking about inflation, even though it’s the obvious repercussion of generating all this imaginary money. Weimar States of America, anybody?
I'm sad. Except when I'm reading.
Happy Easter.
