Boys Will Be Boys
Jul. 16th, 2006 09:14 amDecluttering process continues, albeit ssssss-lowly since the main waking part of every day has to be taken up with store issues, circus issues and walking the dogs.
I've located a bunkbed suite in PG – one of those beds/desk/dresser deals. They want $800; I'll offer them $600. Assuming they'll go for it, I'll have to hire someone to transport it here and then hire someone else to do the set-up: no way I'd attempt it myself, I know my limitations.
1-800-GOT-JUNK will probably charge $500 to cart all the hideous, horrible stuff off the backporch and out of Robin's room.
Then there's the VDub bug whose right-side passenger window inexplicably decided to stop working yesterday. I think the glass somehow fell out of the grid. It's a simple fix, but it does involve taking the door apart which is a significant labor cost. There are other things that need to be repaired at the same time. Let's say the total for everything will come to $1000.
This brings my total operational costs for the month of July – store, home, my whole scene – to somewhere just south of $20,000.
Sigh.

I'm very preoccupied by the latest middle East conflict too. I just don't get the Great Ape need to speciate. Patriotism, honor, glory, holy wars – these are concepts I have no visceral understanding of. All I see is one silverback beating the shit out of another and – man! the tool-using animal! – using a flat rock to scoop out and eat the dead ape's brains. I understand the game theory behind the conflict, but like the Greek poet sez: the boys throw rocks at frogs for sport, but the frogs die in earnest. (Bion of Smyrna for anyone who cares about such things. Shakespeare's transliteration of the quote – As flies to wanton boys, are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport – is more famous. But I like the simplicity of the original.)
