The media site is just about ready to go beta and still no word from Cirque de Méprise Central on the Chinese biographies. What's a publicist to do?

I know! I thought. (Light bulb over head!) I'll fabricate!

Nobody knows anything anyway about Chinese acrobats even though they've been a center ring mainstay for going on oh, about twenty-five years now. Mao Tse Tung – not a big fan of the performing arts generally – was nuts for circuses: it was his unlikely patronage that started the craze at the height of the Cultural Revolution. Maybe he had a girlfriend who was a contortionist and that's why he locked up the Peking Opera star wife for twenty years.

First draft of bio: these Chinese acrobats are really Tibetan monks! See, the acrobatics and juggling with their toes are really stylized remnants of an ancient Buddha temple dance! Forced undercover by the Chinese policy of resettlement, these plucky clerics decided to take the Bodhisattva's message of non-violence, Bardo and Steven Seagall to America! Buy a ticket and we'll throw in a slide show of Everest base camp absolutely free!

Might help ticket sales in Marin County. Will do absolutely nada in fly-over land.

On to the second scenario: our spunky tumblers are Falun Gong followers! When apprehended by the oppressive Chinese government and given a choice between kissing Mao's mummified dong or going to circus school, they chose circus school because they knew, one day, their performing talents would allow them to work in the land of the free!

That will play at Wal-Mart.

And if JDK doesn't like it, he can send me some real information.

The site itself looks mighty, mighty fine although sadly since it contains proprietary information, I can't post the screen shot here. I had to teach myself Cascading Style Sheets. That took a couple of days – CSS is completely counter-intuitive. Then after everything else was set up, I had a major design crisis: some floating space around the content pages which I solved in a completely brilliant, original and elegant fashion.

Too bad I'm not an art director pulling down $100,000 a year.

In other news, the very odd tempo of the rain Saturday was not good for the Little Store's sales but it did produce a magnificent double rainbow over Monterey Bay through which I got to watch a school of dolphins cartwheeling.
