The cannabis is doing its job in keeping me more even-keeled.

And the heatwave finally broke. Fuck La Niña anyway.

I’m keeping my head down when I walk, so I’ll see that $10,000 bill on the sidewalk when it floats down from the sky.

I suspect Biden will be off the Democratic ticket by the end of this week. Schumer & Pelosi—separately—took him out to the woodshed for a little talk. Interestingly, from what’s been reported of those little talks, it seems as if they both think a Trump presidency is a foregone conclusion: Schumer talked about the impossibility of holding the Senate with Unca Joe at the top of the ticket, & Pelosi talked about the impossibility of holding the House.

“All we can do is think locally,” Barbara Angell—with whom I chatted on the phone for an hour yesterday—told me. “Give money to local candidates. Canvass for local candidates.”

We both think phone banking is an utter waste of time.

Local candidates can forget about getting any moolah from moi until sometime this fall, but I’m willing to do something, even canvassing, though I’m not sure I’m the right representative for the progressive movement here in Trumplandia, what with my naturally purple hair & all. Canvassing is difficult to begin with; you can be pretty sure that 90% of the people whose doors you knock on will either not open their doors or only open them so they can slam them in your face, but boots on the ground, etc, etc, etc.

I’m in New York’s 19th Congressional district, which is a national bellwether, contesting Josh Riley against Mark Molinaro (who was okay as a local Dutchess County politician, but is now a Trump tool.)

I’m thinking the Democratic party must really be regretting its takedown of Andrew Cuomo.

Andrew Cuomo may have been corrupt—what politician isn’t corrupt?—but those sexual harassment charges against him were flimsy, flimsy, flimsy. And he was an extraordinary administrator. And he knew how to fight. He absolutely could have won against Trump on a Presidential ballot.

Anyway, I was mildly productive yesterday. And I present you with a video of the delightful chicksas eating the evening meal of tortillas I feed them in Iggy’s absence:

Chickens!!!
Who can beat Trump as a Democrat runner now? If Kamala, (I don't think she can), who would be her VP pick? These ppl call for Biden to resign, (I'm not disagreeing), but they can't run or won't want to run, who will who has a decent chance?

The chicksas are being so polite as they eat! Perhaps just because they are a small flock.

I want to learn more about how to assist with voter registration efforts, especially what can be done to help in states where it might matter more (vs. in NY).

I am getting very annoyed by how the political news is dominated by character/physiology issues, rather than being focused on political platforms.

I think that might be a big part of why we're more likely to see Trump win this time, but it might not be so obvious to a lot of people, because I think the extent to which a person actually hears substantive information about party platforms depends on where that person gets their information. And there are a lot of interested parties working to ensure that people are distracted by the news headlines, ignoring the underlying platform topics, which are kind of more important at the end of the day.

I heard just a few snippets of NPR coverage of the Republican Convention and VP nominee, that caught my attention because they were all about economic policy, and there's actually a chance I might agree with some of the Republican platform. The Democrats have not impressed me at all on that front. That's just one out of several topics that are important to me, of course, but seriously, WTF why is all of the chatter about Her Emails* instead of this other stuff?

*So to speak.

Yeah, at the end of the day I cannot and will not support a party that is openly racist and restricts reproductive freedom.

More of what I was hearing about related to international trade agreements and breaking up corporate monopolies, plus related ideas that are likely to appeal to working-class voters.

Far away over the pond we have heard good things about Andy Beshar and 'that woman in Michigan.'
