Kiskas & Chicksas

First night sleeping in the new digs.

I woke up a lot.

But then, I always do.

When it was time to load the kiskas into their crates and transport them to the Promised Land, Mabel hid.

Great! I’ll just leave you here, thought I furiously after wasting half an hour searching. (Futile! Since as we all know, cats have the ability to teleport themselves into other dimensions. If they don’t want to be found, they won’t be found.)

I drove back to Wallkill with the compliant and altogether much better-behaved Molly, spinning a little tale in my head of Mabel, the Ghost Cat of White Oaks Road who, long after L’s been carted away to Dementia Memory Acres, torments the new owners of the house by materializing and dematerializing, seemingly at random…

Put the rest of the bed together. Unpacked a couple of boxes.

But I could not abandon Mabel, of course. She’s just too plump & sassy! So, I drove across the Great Water to collect her and back—again—



Both kiskas seem to like the new digs.



The sky had been overcast and grey all day though it never did get around to raining. There wasn’t a proper sunset, but there was a splash of vivid color across the western horizon:



The chicksas have also been an endless source of entertainment. They graze! Like sheep! 😀



I told L I would come over today to clean the erstwhile Patrizia-torium thoroughly and return the keys, but I think I’m gonna put that off till tomorrow. (How mean is it to say to say she won’t know the difference?)

Instead, I am going to assemble the desk, do some Remuneration (because I must stay on top of the revenue stream), unpack a few boxes, and explore the village of Wallkill.

I have a feeling there is absolutely nothing of interest in Wallkill.

But I won’t know for sure till I investigate.

I am glad the kiskas seem to like the new place (I hope you do, too!) Are they strictly indoor cats? If not, is there a chance they might chase the chicksas?

The kiskas are indoor girls. And at this point, they're not interested in going outside (though this would be a very safe environment for them to do that.) The chicksas are safe!!!

In our city apartment last-wife and I gave the kitties catnip only in their carriers. That way, when in the event of emergency, we needed to get them in there, they'd jump at the word "catnip". Works for the vet and other journeys as well, because while they do remember "catnip" they don't remember being fooled for as long.

Smart! I generally give the kiskas treats when they have to go in their carriers. I hold the treat bag up & rattle it! And it worked on Molly. But Mabel (the calico) is a sly old thing. She's watched me pack for a month, she knew what I was doing and didn't want any part of it. 😀 Though now that she's here, she likes it.

When you went back for Mabel, did she still play hide and seek, or was she a little more forthcoming?

She was very reluctant to be crated. I had to pick her up kitten-style by the scruff of her neck—which was difficult because there isn't a scruff to Mabel's neck! 😀

Hm! It's kind of interesting the kiskas have seemed to warm to the new place so quickly. But good! To me it kind of means they are more accepting of you as their person than maybe you let on.

Life with chicksas is a very good life. They are wonderful to watch!

Yes, I think I am their person—though they're not overtly affectionate the way most of my other companion cats have been. They don't like to be picked up & cuddled. But they do flop down next to me & let me rub their bellies. And they meow for me when they can't see me.

I like the place! The cats like it, too. It's surprised me how quickly they've adapted to being here.
