How To Ensure You Won't Get Ripped Off

This fuckin’ weather.
Ground mists so thick yesterday, you could barely see 100 yards in front of you.
I suppose this makes sense: In its natural state, the Hudson Valley is one big bog, and the precipitation has been nonstop for a week now. At least it’s warmed up so the precipitation isn’t snow.

Also yesterday, client sent me enough work to last into the spring. Good news, Molly-Mabel & Mabel-Molly: You won’t have to starve!
And I texted with Ichabod viz the Dysfunctional Family Follies.
Im glad the three of us are able to communicate effectively and don’t have much if any animus toward each other, on top of loving each other, he texted—the “three of us” being him, me, & RTT.
And I thought, Yes, that’s true.
And felt proud of us.

In honor of my mother’s b-day, I watched her favorite movie—which is the 1971 noir Klute, in which Jane Fonda delivers a tour de force performance as a high-class call girl.
My mother totally identified with the Jane Fonda character!
In fact, I remember my mother telling me that she had figured out a way to ensure you’d never get ripped off when you worked as a prostitute!!!
“You mail the money to yourself, Patty!” she said. “Before you turn the trick! Isn’t that brilliant?”
For a movie that was made 50 years ago, Klute stands up remarkably well. The only scenes that seem dated are the party scenes.
Plus it contains one of my all-time favorite lines about True Love: “He’s seen me ugly,” Jane Fonda tells her therapist to account for her attraction to straight-arrow, small-town cop Donald Sutherland.
Jane Fonda’s scenes with her therapist in this movie are all absolutely first-rate, & if this therapist were accepting new clients, I’d absolutely sign up.

I'm getting it confused with Barbarella.
That's the one I might watch.

Date: 2024-01-30 10:23 am (UTC)Donald Sutherland was always one of those men who gave me the vibe that he was something else in bed. There's a point at which he is sitting there watching Bree and he wants her so much he turned me on. But he was so ugly! I never really understood what was attracting me!

Date: 2024-01-30 11:33 am (UTC)There is a similar push-pull sexual tension in Don't Look Now, where he is married to Julie Christie (who, for one reason or another, I have always considered the Most Beautiful Woman Ever.)
You look at him. You look at her. And you think, What?

Date: 2024-01-31 06:53 am (UTC)I know exactly what you mean about looking at him and looking at her. All I could think was 'he must be... you know... built.' But that's not what's going on. It's the tension you describe.
I know a lot's been said about that sex scene. To this day it looks like the real thing to me.
