Mrs. Hare V. 2.0 a/k/a my first husband’s second wife, sent me a note about the Great Facebook Female Blackout today.
It’s a protest against domestic violence.
Wotthell! I thought. Who can be in favor of domestic violence?
I blacked out my profile pic.
Meanwhile, I’m jonesing for the next installment of The Young and the Kavanaugh (™
Hey! My efforts are succeeding! I’d be a fool to stop now!
Anyway, it’s quite amusing to read the reactions to the Great Facebook Female Blackout:
ALL the women who I know who are sending me, and posting, this blackout notice are white straight (or straight-appearing) women, sniffs one woman. And ALL the women, with no exception, who I know who aren't into protesting this way, are WOC, queer, disabled, and/or otherwise part of marginalized community wherein even one day of silence and invisibility, even virtually as a protest, feels anathema, as silence and invisibility have been our default.
(That “our” would be pretty funny if you knew this woman.)
This immediately devolves into a flame war: Well, I got the invite from a trans woman! So there!
It’s the type of pussy protest that appeals to Privilege!
Our enemies want our silence! Our silence and our obedience!
If it’s somebody’s baby step into activism, go for it. I guess.
Yada, yada, yada.
I had to laugh.
People will fight to the death about anything.

I went to the Garlic Festival in Saugerties yesterday.
It was… a Garlic Festival. Lots of stuff with garlic in it.
Met up with Mister and Missus
Today, I’m registering voters for four hours in downtown Poughkeepsie, but I really have to do some revenue generation, too.
