New toy arrived. I shot this portrait of some Kurdish women in Steinbeck Plaza from a distance of about twenty feet – granted, I chopped it badly so the margin is white on white and of course I shrunk it down for web viewing, but the detail and clarity of the images in the original are really quite amazing, every bit as good as a 35m film camera.

One problemo – the reference guide appears to have been decoded from an ancient Mayan codex into a pattern language that is not English though it shares grammar and vocabulary features in common with English. The learning curve is gonna be steep.

Blah weekend – not great, not terrible, somewhat short of profoundly okay.

Lucius called – Bantam is willing to pick him up but only if he swears off writing short stories. Jeanna called – CocaCola fucked her on a delivery so she’s switching the drive-in over to Pepsi.
Store did well. Fumani sang a lot of Patsy Cline – badly, I thought, but fortunately the tourists do not share my musical tastes. In between sales I read the New Yorker which had an essay on Ken Kesey by Robert Stone (the devil of whom I recently spake) as well as an interesting ramble on writer’s block (from which I don’t suffer though many may wish I did) and three short stories by Alice Munro, one of my favorite writers.

The usual beach outing with Robin and the doggies. For some unknown reason, ISM decided to do its state-mandated sex education unit on the very last day of school without informing parents ahead of time. I would have liked to sit in on that one or at least had a peek at the curriculum. As it stands, Robin is full of questions like "So, how do you masturbate anyway?" and "So when do I get to start using that stuff you put under your arms so you don’t stink up rooms?"

Big circus party at Elfrida, the circus lady’s house last night. Elfrida’s idea of party food is Velveeta hors d'oeuvres and warm Chardonnay so I passed. Instead Robin & I repaired to my bed to watch The Others and fell asleep together with the doggies and the pussycat, curled up like spoons. The snake, watching alone from her cage, was jealous.

I think I need to get to the ocean very soon.
Do you have a fotolog?

No fotolog. I already spend way too much time hunched over my computer.

If you come down to the ocean hereabouts, do let me know. There's a lovely restaurant where RuthAnne and I had lunch, plus some wonderful beach strolls -- nothing too strenuous, fabulous views. More vigerous hikes too if you want to sweat. Plus I think Emilia and Robin would take to each other.

That sounds SO nice. I have really been thinking of just Emielia and I getting in the Subaru and taking off north. (She has recently entered into a period of what can only be described as being human.) Don would have a great time, but I'm not up to the effort of dislodging him from his home improvement projects.
