RTT Update
Feb. 6th, 2012 07:59 amThe kid’s in trouble. He bet fifty bucks on a Patriot win, and he doesn’t have the fifty bucks to hold up his end. Of course, the note holder is a girl which he, no doubt, believes absolves him from all financial responsibility.
He did very well indeed on his most recent report card. Straight A’s in everything except math where I honestly think he got stiffed: He got 100% on his math midterm, but the teacher doesn’t like the fact he’s always handing in his homework late. He got one A++ -- on his senior term project, which was an investigation of the synthetic marijuana sold as smokeable incense in the headshops which seem to comprise the entire tenant population of the Ithaca Commons. I must say, he did an excellent job on this, calling hospitals around Southern NY for statistics because there are no published statistics, etc etc. I don’t think I could have done as good a job at 17. There’s some talk of him presenting the paper to the State Assembly. This sets him up nicely for acceptance into Syracuse U’s public policy program, one of the best in the country, although then there’s always the question of how we’re gonna afford to put him through Syracuse U’s public policy program. Plus, he doesn’t really strike me as the policy wank type.
No, I think the best fit for him would be SONY Purchase. Plus, you know, maybe he could land a modeling gig there or something and pay for his own damn schooling.
We’ll see.
Anyway, he’s turned around. So I have two accomplishments really from this last difficult, difficult, difficult two and a half years: I saved my son and I wrote a novel.
Maybe it wasn’t entirely a waste.
