Big excitement this morning is that the kitchen pipes unfroze! And I can go back to washing dishes in the kitchen sink rather than the bathtub.

Right now, it's 23F, which is cold for us. In a perfect world, your landlord would insulate the pipes, but you'd be far away, in sunny California.

Growing up in an unheated summer cabin in Minnesota, mother often had to go down into the crawl space with a blowtorch (a gasoline blowtorch, not one of those easy propane torches) to thaw the pipes. Gasoline blowtorches scare the crap out of me.

I lived in an unheated house in Scotland for a few years. The winters were miserable....burst pipes and feeling cold all the time. Getting into and out of bed were dreaded. Yeuck!

Yeah, getting out of bed is hard on days like today. Staying out of bed in the evenings past 8pm when the temperature goes down is hard.
