The beavers were out and about doing dam maintenance when Milo and I did our evening stroll yesterday evening. I'm not sure they're cute exactly. But their whole set-up fascinates me. I've found two dams within half a mile of each other. This one is under a bridge -- I doubt it's the lodge.

Please! No split beaver jokes! :-)

I love this stuff. I just found a LJ of a woman who has a mother bobcat, and her litter, living on the back patio.

A bobcat! Wow, that's cool!

I love this stuff too. Must say it's one of the upsides of my forced sojourn here.

I wrote a story about beavers and what happens when you mess with them...

Love it!

Did you ever shop it to magazines? Strikes me it doesn't need much at this point. And the Upper Peninsula is hot</> right now.

It was published 12 years ago for a hundred bucks by a small press in Mackinaw City. I was also given a stack of the anthologies the story was included within and told I could keep whatever I made from their sale. I sold 15 - 3 to strangers and the rest to friends and family. Did better a few years later with a comic book series I wrote. Sold 1200 of those things. I believe sci-fi comics will nearly always outsell short story fiction. Just a theory I have.
Yeah - been thinking of shopping a few of the stories around. Lotsa stuff about the U.P. and cooking and general nonsense. Hopefully do better this time around. Publishing's changed a shitload in the past decade....thankyou interwebs.

I would look in the year's Best American Short Stories or O'Henry stories for a story that might be similar to it in theme (not tone) i.e. outdoors, or manic friendship or whatever, look in the back to see what magazine publised the story and submit it there.

Great suggestion, thanks I'll give it a whirl...
