Ten hours sleep, and I’m back to feeling human again.

I am suffering mightily, though, because I don’t have a fabulous book to read.

###

Yesterday, I managed to squeeze out a little bit of Remunerative Work. But mostly, I cleaned and puttered, counting out the hours till 8pm, which I figured was the earliest I could possibly go to bed.

I did rewatch To Kill a Mockingbird, another movie I’ve seen at least a dozen times.

Of all the movies ever made, this one may come closest to depicting the secret world of childhood.

It’s also a movie about fighting injustice, of course—and here’s where all the criticisms of “white saviors” and “bloodless liberal humanism” miss the point: You can only fight injustice in the very narrow time/space/cultural continuum into which you were born. You cannot anticipate the changing political currents—I mean, you can, and some writers and thinkers do, but those are generally the ones that reap post-mortem veneration and that usually by accident.

Fifty years from now, every meat eater alive today is going to be vilified by the Woke Citizenry of 2073 for eating the flesh of once-living animals rather than flesh grown in a vat.

The science was there! these future Wokies will proclaim self-righteously.

###

“But how do you define Wokism?” Neighbor Ed asked me the other day in the middle of one of my rants.

“That’s easy,” I said. “They’re the people who don’t think Robin DiAngelo is full of shit.”

Off to Ithaca to hang out with my Boo!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
