Personally, I don’t give a shit that Hillary Clinton maintained a server in her Chappaqua basement. Colin Powell probably used AOL for God’s sake. Given the frequency with which official government servers are hacked, keeping emails on a private server may actually be a good idea since it allows one to implement all sorts of innovative experimental security protocols that government bureaucracies have not yet pushed up the chain of command.

There are many reasons to dislike Hillary Clinton. This isn’t one of them.

I do kinda care that Hillary Clinton is reinstating that “vast right-wing conspiracy” rhetoric she deployed in the 90s. See, I spent a great deal of the 90s vigorously defending the Clinton administration against vast right-wing conspiracies. Not that I actually knew anyone who wasn’t on the Clintons’ side throughout Whitewater or Monica-gate. But if I had, I would have leveled them with my scathing rhetoric.

Thing is, though, we are now in our – what? – 30th year of that vast right-wing conspiracy whose only purpose is to bring the Clintons down. And I’m thinkin’, Wait! Surely that vast right-wing conspiracy has diversified during these ensuing three decades.

And you may be thinking, They did! They targeted Obama!

To which I would reply: Obama deserved to be targeted.

He did a piss poor job with the economy back in that first term. (Yeah, yeah. A mess he inherited from Dubya Bush. But he shouldn’t have used Bush’s economic team to try and resolve it.)

He got us even more entangled in Middle Eastern shitstorms.

And his Affordable Care Act is an abysmal piece of legislation. (It increased access to health care insurance; it did absolutely nothing to increase access to health care. Health care insurance and health care have overlaps on the Venn diagram, but they are not the same thing. Furthermore, ACA did absolutely nothing to curb medical inflation, making that word "Affordable" a joke. Premiums under ACA went up on average 22.2% this last year, and they will continue to rise. Tell me how much you luv ObamaCare in 2020 when your premiums have doubled.)

Now. I’ve absolutely loved Obama in his last 18 months in office, now that he no longer gives a shit about reelection. He’s very, very funny. I can relate to his opinions about most things. And he remains in the Number One spot on that coveted list of Presidents I Would Most Like to Hang Out With.

That does not mean he was a particularly effective President.

The FBI’s public announcement that it’s continuing to investigate the HRC emails is total bullshit.

I’m disinclined to want to defend HRC, though.

I’m more inclined to want to allow the vast right-wing conspiracy to descend upon her like harpies or like the bee drones in the last episode of Season 3, Black Mirror. Go for the eyes, I want to yell. I hear that little space on her throat just below the larynx is particularly vulnerable.

EXCEPT that HRC is running against Donald Trump who is just one of the most contemptible human beings to run for American political office in modern times.

Sigh.

She’ll win.

But it looks like the election may be closer than I thought it would be. And after she wins, we’re in for a lot more of that vast right-wing conspiracy verbiage.
