It's a Prius. It has front-wheel drive. Take a look underneath. No drive shaft, no rear differential.

What gives the car a boost in traction is that the gas engine, electric motor and transmission all sit weightily over the front wheels.

It's quite good in snow, but all bets are off all cars even 4wd on boilerplate ice.
